About Us

Annmarie Garis

"I've been a runner for the last 22 years and can honestly say that running has changed my life. I truly love to run and look forward it! I mentally, emotionally, and physically feel better when I'm running.  But this definitely wasn't always the case. When I first started, running was simply a means of physical exercise. Now, I am not naturally the most athletic person and, to say the least, running was hard! There were many days that I hated it but just kept going because I didn't know what else to do. But then I started to really learn about running. I became a Doctor of Physical Therapy and studied anatomy and biomechanics. I worked at running specialty clinic and became an Assistant Coach for the Miami Runner's Club. It was then that running became a lot easier and I really started to enjoy it. But my transformation wasn't because of vigorous, intensive physical training. It was simply because I had learned how to run efficiently and what I needed to do to make that happen. I stopped pushing my body to continue to run harder and started using my knowledge to run smarter.

One thing that I have learned is that our ability to move is simply physics of the human body. Knowing how to move well is the foundation to happy running.

My inspiration to begin The Runner's Program comes from both my passion to share this love of running and from the many runners that I've treated and trained over the years. There is such a sense of excitement and pride when I see one of my runner's accomplish their goals and start to fall in love with running. This is particularly evident in my patients who had previously never been able to run.

Over the years, I was frequently asked the same questions. Injured runners often want to know why no one had ever taught them how to run well before. And many of my recreational runners ask for online resources that aren't primarily designed for elite or long-distance runners. So, I decided to use my experience, training, and education to create The Runner's Program. My goal is to provide an easy, inclusive, and accessible resource for anyone who's willing to take the first step."
